Terms of service
The agreement between us: what we promise, what we deliberately do not, and how either side ends it.
Before you rely on this
Proofwire is currently operated by a private individual in Italy; VAT registration is in progress and the company details will appear here once it completes. Until then we cannot issue VAT invoices, and these documents have not yet been reviewed by a lawyer. If you are evaluating us as a supplier under a procurement process, tell us and we will say plainly where we stand rather than let you find out at contract stage.

What you are buying
Access to an API that returns a verdict on a phone number, email address or IP address, together with the evidence behind that verdict. Usage is metered in credits.
You are not buying a guarantee that any particular verdict is correct. We publish our accuracy against a dataset that ships with the source precisely so you can judge that for yourself rather than take a number on trust — see the benchmark.
Credits and billing
Credits do not expire. Not after a year, not after a plan change, not after cancellation. There is no expiry field in our ledger to set.
Inconclusive verdicts are not billed. When the evidence does not settle the question, the response says so and costs nothing.
Cached repeats are not billed. Asking the same question inside the freshness window returns the answer you already paid for.
You can set a hard monthly ceiling. Past it, requests are refused rather than served and invoiced. A bill can never exceed a number you chose.
Plans currently run from €29 to €399 a month. Current prices are always on the pricing page, published in full including volume rates.
Cancelling
One click, or one API call, effective immediately. No notice period, no written request, no retention conversation.
Cancelling stops renewal and takes nothing away: your remaining credits stay spendable, your API keys keep working until you spend them or revoke them, and your data is not deleted. You get a confirmation reference to keep, so a later dispute is settled by a record rather than by whoever answers the support inbox.
What we do not promise
No uptime guarantee yet. We are a young service run by a small team and we are not going to offer an SLA we cannot yet stand behind. When there is one it will appear here with a number and a remedy attached, not as a paragraph of intent.
No warranty that a verdict is correct. Verification depends on networks and mail servers we do not control, and a number that answers now may not later. Use the confidence score and the evidence rather than treating the verdict as a fact about the world.
Our liability is capped at what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. That is the standard position for a service at this price, and pretending otherwise would be pretending.
Your obligations
Have a lawful basis for the data you send us, use the service within the acceptable use policy, and keep your API keys secret. Anything done with your key is treated as done by you, which is why revocation is immediate and takes one click.
If a key leaks, revoke it first and tell us second. We would rather find out from a revoked key than from a bill.
Changes to these terms
If we change anything that materially affects you — price, billing rules, what happens to your credits — we will email you before it takes effect, not after. Changes that only clarify wording will simply appear here with a new date.
Law and jurisdiction
These terms are governed by the law of Italy. If you are a consumer rather than a business, this does not deprive you of the protections of your own country's law.
